SGS Firma Acuerdo Mundial para Certificar FSSC 22000
SGS, the world’s leading Food Safety Management Systems certification body has signed a global licensing contract with the Foundation for Food Safety Certification. Under the agreement, SGS is immediately able to certify organizations against the new FSSC 22000 standard. SGS is now progressing IAF accreditation for the standard to complete the full recognition process.
Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 is the new certification scheme for food manufacturers based on the integration of the ISO 22000:2005 food safety standard and Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 220. Developed by the Netherlands-based Foundation for Food Safety Certification and supported by the Confederation of Food and Drink Industries of the European Union (CIAA), FSSC 22000 has been approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) with the encouragement to move it to full implementation. Certification will be accredited under the ISO 22003 standard and the ISO Guide 65 (product certification), which provides complete food safety management systems for organizations.
Publicly Available Specification (PAS 220:2008) supplements the prerequisite programs in ISO 22000, making it more complete and bringing it in line with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements for benchmarking standards. Manufacturers already certified against ISO 22000 will only need an additional review against the PAS 220 to meet the requirements of FSSC 22000. With over 1’500 ISO 22000 certificates issued to-date worldwide SGS has included audits against the PAS 220 scope since it was introduced in 2008.
“SGS has been able to issue certificates against both ISO 22000 and PAS 220 for some time, but association with FSSC 22000 and the recognition of the standard by GFSI will increase the value we can provide to customers in helping enhance food safety”, says Supreeya Sansawat, Global Food Safety Manager at SGS.
Once fully implemented, the FSSC 22000 certification scheme is expected to become GFSI recognized in addition to SQF, BRC, IFS and Dutch HACCP.
